West Edmonton Mall

Children can have lots of fun at North America’s largest shopping centre. West Edmonton Mall is home to an ice rink, two 18-hole mini-golf courses, bowling, billiards, bumper boats, California Sea Lions, an underground aquarium and many more attractions. It’s also the home of World Waterpark – a tropical indoor paradise – and Galaxyland – the world’s largest indoor amusement park.

Toddler Time makes a great play-date! Children five years and under can have a blast at Galaxy Kids Playpark – a large play area with slides, caves and ball pits – or splash around at World Waterpark during Toddler Time! And now children five and under can also learn to skate at the Ice Palace with an accredited free-skate coach onsite for instruction! Skate and helmet rentals are available.

Loads of activities for tweens and teens. The Galaxyland Amusement Park has roller coasters, swings and thrilling rides that will appeal to teens. A new spinning coaster was added in 2007. The World Waterpark  is huge and has slides for all types from beginners to advanced. The extreme slides are steeper and faster. The mix of slides is great if you have friends or family of different age groups.

The good news is the Waterpark is totally indoors and kept at a nice warm temperature so it doesn’t matter what the weather is like. They have palm trees so you feel like you are in a warm tropical spot even when it is snowing outside!

Did we mention West Edmonton Mall has stores? Cosmetic stores and more cosmetics stores, shoes, purses, cool clothes, jeans, hair salons, sporting goods, electronics, music stores and way more. Lots of the regular stores, but for some this is their only location in Edmonton. You can come to watch the latest movies and of course many restaurants and food kiosks to choose from. There have been a lot of new stores and services opening up in the last couple of months. A very popular spot for both locals and visitors!

West Edmonton Mall hosts some tournaments such as hockey, ringette, and cheerleading so you may be coming as a participant or come to watch athletes in action. If you bring the rest of the family, there is a lot for them to do in between your games, etc. Of course make sure they make it back in time to cheer for you!

West Edmonton Mall Waterpark new slide

The World Waterpark at West Edmonton Mall unveiled three new slides on Monday, August 15, 2011.

World Waterpark’s three new thrill slides feature an electronic launch system. Sliders step into a glass capsule and the floor drops from beneath them, sending them on their journey.

Cyclone, the first waterslide of its kind in Canada offers both the unexpected drop plus a vertical loop. After the floor releases from beneath them, a slider plummets 17 metres straight down, as fast as 60 km/h, before arching upward into a near-vertical loop and blazing out into a splashdown lane.

The two Sky Screamer Extreme slides both have the electronic launch system, but one of the slides is enclosed from start to finish while the other is open. Standing above the park at 23.47 metres, the Sky Screamer Extreme slides are built for speed and can carry sliders as fast as 60 km/h.
